Feel free to call or email with any questions or ideas you'd like to explore.

ratios  the usual teaching ratio for rock climbing is 1:2. It's practical and safer, meaning more skills can be covered and more climbing can be achieved. This ratio can be increased on request but we'd need to be sensible about the routes we climb and the places we visit.

The teaching or guiding ratio for winter climbing is no more than 1:2. This is the most responsible ratio to stick to from a safety point of view. Scottish winter conditions can change unexpectedly and rapidly during the course of a day and the ability of a climbing team to move quickly is a real benefit.

Instruction or guiding in mountain walking, scrambling, or navigation can be arranged on a ratio of up to 1:6.

equipment  all technical climbing equipment is provided free of charge. You'll be using some of the best gear available such as Black Diamond cams, DMM carabiners and Mammut ropes. In winter we even go as far as to switch ropes to Beal 'Jokers' to keep rucksacks nice and light. If you haven't got your own winter gear, you can borrow a pair of DMM technical axes and the latest Grivel mountaineering crampons. For an idea of what to bring along, take a look at the summer kit list (pdf) and winter kit list (pdf).

accommodation  there's a variety of places to stay to suit all budgets and tastes, where you can be picked up and dropped off each day. Take a look at the North-Wales (pdf) and Scotland (pdf) accommodation lists for a few suggestions. Alternatively let me know your requirements and I'll make all necessary arrangements.

travel-North Wales  the Snowdonia national park is within easy reach of the rest of the UK by road and rail (including frequent direct services from Euston, Manchester, Birmingham and Crewe).

travel-Scotland  the Scottish Highlands are connected directly by both the east and west mainline rail services. A pick up can often be arranged at the local train station. There's also daily flights to Inverness from Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Birmingham.

insurance  it is strongly recommended that you take out some form of accident insurance. Cover can be obtained from either snowcard or the bmc.

downloads  here's all the downloads together in safe pdf format.
